
The first National Conference on Early Warning System in the case of new psychoactive substances (Early Warning System) will be held in Zagreb on 19th April 2011. The Conference is jointly organized by the Office for Combating Drug Abuse of the Croatian Government and the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), with the aim of providing professional support the development of national information systems for drugs.
The main objective of this conference is to present EU and national Early Warning System on New Psychoactive Substances to the wider audience of different professionals at the grassroots level that will be expected to participate actively in the national system.
It will also be presented basic aims and principles of the EU Early Warning System on New Psychoactive Substances, together with good practice models of Austria and Netherlands, followed by the presentation of Croatian model and detailed explanation of role and expectations from professionals at the 3rd level of the national system. In the timeframe foreseen for discussion a Form for collection of information for comments and finalization will be presented to participants.

The PG has launched a dramatic 30-second television spot on a young woman in hospital after a drug-induced car accident. Many accidents and deaths on European roads are caused by drivers whose performance is impaired by psychoactive substances. The launching of the spot marks 30th anniversary of the Pompidou Group at the Council of Europe.

The World Drug Report presents comprehensive information on the illicit drug situation. It provides detailed estimates and trends on production, trafficking and consumption in the opium/heroin, coca/cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine-type stimulants markets. This year, for the first time, the World Drug Report includes special feature sections on the quality of drug data available to UNODC, trends in drug use among young people and police-recorded drug offences. It also discusses one the most formidable unintended consequences of drug control - the black market for drugs - and how the international community best can tackle it.

(21.9.2009, LISBON) Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia, Đurđa Adlešič, visited the EMCDDA as the country prepares for membership of this EU agency. Ms Adlešič, who is also president of the Commission on Combating Narcotic Drug Abuse of the Croatian Government, was joined by a 20-strong delegation.
Among the dignitaries were: Neven Mimica, Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament and President of the Committee on European Integration; Stjepan Adanić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Family, Veterans’ Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity; Milanka Opačić, President of the Committee on Family, Youth and Sport; and other high-level parliamentary representatives in the areas of health, social welfare and domestic policy. The delegation also boasted a strong technical team of experts working in the drugs field, including the heads of the governmental Office for Combating Narcotic Drug Abuse and the Croatian Reitox national focal point.
